Do you have advice on improving my tennis game, Cam asks, Mishu answers

Dear Cam: Well, I AM a dog, so… no hands = can’t hold a tennis racquet. I’m also not naturally good at catching tennis balls in my mouth (I’m no retriever), so what I try to do is really really focus on the ball, and sometimes I manage to catch it. Yea, so do that when you swing your racquet (especially with the #backhand)! #Focus

Dear Jasmin,
You are not your job. You are not what the people who you hope will hire you think you are. You’re a complete human being. Can you find things to do that remind you of that and make yourself feel good and successful?

How can I change my life, Jasmin asks, Mishu answers

Dear Jasmin,

You don’t always have the power to change your life, but you *can* change how you relate to the things that happen to you. I used to live in a house with a big yard and I loved lying in the sun all day. Now I live in an apartment which kind of sucked at first. So I figured out where the sun hits in the apartment at different times of day, and I move around to catch the sun and really enjoy myself!

Trouble studying because of your phone? Bruno asks, Dear Mishu answers

Dear Bruno:  Are you a doctor on call?  A parent whose kid is outside?  If not – put your phone in another room and turn it to silent!…. When you’ve finished your studies, maybe you’ll be *important* enough to need to be reached at all times….  Do you think I’d be able to learn a new trick with squirrels running around?

The Inside Story

Our smartphones bring us a lot of convenience, fun, and connection to the world. But they can also be a source of stress.  This is especially true when they distract us from doing what we need to do to reach our goals. Cell phones can also pose some health risks, so it’s a good idea in general not to have them near or on your body at all times. read more

Dear Morgan,
Me too! I often tune out when my humans are talking because I’m thinking about my own agenda (squirrels)…. Instead of thinking about your own agenda (what you’re going to say next), try to think about repeating what the person talking to you is saying.

How can I stop wasting time? Tyler asks, Mishu answers.

How can I stop wasting time? Tyler asks, Mishu answers.

Dear Tyler,

Why are you wasting time? Figure that out and you’ll know what to do.  #NowIsNow

The Inside Story

Procrastinating, or wasting time, is pretty common. The thing most of us forget is that just fighting the tendency won’t help. What will help is figuring out why we are wasting time. Because when we find ourselves wasting time, there’s usually a good reason. And knowing that reason is the source of making a change.

Maybe we just really don’t want to be doing the activity that we’re supposed to be doing. That’s possible, and although it’s not always possible to avoid unpleasant or boring tasks, sometimes knowing that you really don’t like something can help you eventually make a change in your life. read more

How do I choose between two careers? Jordan asks, Mishu answers

Dear Jordan,
Figure out which one you’re willing to struggle to do well in  – that is the one you really want. Once you know, go for it without looking back!  (My career is squirrel catching, and oh do I struggle. But it’s totally worth it)

 The Inside Story on Career

Choosing a career can be difficult for some people, especially if you have more than one interest.

One thing to keep in mind is that success in your career – any career – requires a lot of hard work. And you’ll probably have failures along the way.  You will likely need to struggle and try and fail for a while before you find success.

Because if you’re not willing to struggle for it, you probably won’t stick it out through all of the ups and downs that will inevitably happen before you see career success. read more
