What is the secret to happiness, Hemi asks Mishu

Dear Hemi: To be happy, focus on the basics — friends or family, nature, and your passions (mmm… squirrels). What to avoid if you want to be happy? Anything I wouldn’t be interested in (hint: dogs are not interested in money, fame or comparing ourselves to others)  #dearmishu #wwmishudo

The Inside Story

Have you ever noticed that dogs seem to always be happy? And that the smallest things make them happy – such as you standing up, calling their name, or spending a minute or two playing with them? Dogs are happy, and dogs make us happy (and healthy!) read more

Dear Linda: So nice of you to ask! Almost every night I meet my puppy friends Onyx and Remy outside to play and even though they’re small they’re always happy to chase me. So – I’d say my neighbors are treating me great! How about yours?

Trying NomNomNow fresh dog food delivery! #NomNomNow #NowIsNow

Hi !
I’m Mishu, and I was told that I’m the worlds #7 Advice Columnist, but all I care about is living in the moment and having enough energy to chase squirrels.  Here is my story:

N.G., My dad, met Nicholas of NomNomNow (cute name, right?) a few months ago at the beach..well, not really the beach, but near Myrtle Beach SC, during the wonderful BlogPaws Convention. They hit it off and as a result, it seems like I’m getting veterinarian formulated fresh dog food every  day.  I may just be the luckiest rescue dog Advice Columnist life coach on earth! I’m sick of grumpy people around me. How can I make them be nicer, Pat asks, Mishu answers

I’m sick of grumpy people around me. How can I make them be nicer, Pat asks, Mishu answers

Dear Pat:  Sometimes people (or animals) are grumpy because they’re in distress, pain, or feeling stressed. The other day my human took me to meet a man. He was nice, but I really, really had to poop… so I kept barking at the man. After I did my business, I was a lot friendlier.  Try to understand why these people are grumpy. Maybe you can help them and they’ll be nicer, or at least you won’t be as offended…. <3 Mishu

Lots of bad things have happened lately to my family and friends. Please tell me some happy things, Miranda asks, Mishu answers.

Dear Miranda: ??????? The world is beautiful. Bad things are also part of this beautiful life. The only way to go forward is to accept the bad-beautiful things and try to notice the good-beautiful things. Try a nature walk or a trip to the beach – it always helps!  What do my friends think?

Did someone say celery? Mmmm…. sounds delicious

The Inside Story

Celebrity?  Mishu could not be less interested! In fact, she’s so not interested in being a celebrity that she doesn’t even know that word. For her, it might as well be celery.

What makes someone wise? Sammi asks, Mishu answers

Dear Sammi:  The wisest people think they don’t know anything….so they’re always curious, open to new things, learning, and growing….  Not to brag, but every morning I sniff the grass as if I’ve never smelled grass before. #TrySomethingNew

People don’t like it when you push them down on your way to be first. ~ Mishu

People don’t like it when you push them down on your way to be first. ~ Mishu

Yea, so people don’t like it when I knock them over on my because of my drive to be first…  That goes for you humans too: it’s okay to compete and try to be first, but don’t knock anyone down on your way.  #BeKind

The Inside Story

Dear Mishu is definitely an alpha — and you see that most on walks or hikes. If she’s not first, leading the way, #1 explorer, she’ll pull on the leash until whoever is holding it moves to the front.
I don’t know whether it’s her instinct to protect everyone or just her excitement to explore, but it is a habit that we haven’t really tried to break her of.  Mostly because Mishu’s bold, free spirited love of life is what we admire about her so much. We want to be like Mishu because she is so excited to be first!
Finishing First – the Kind Way
Still…

We definitely do not encourage that behavior in Mishu!
The obvious parallel to humans is that so many of us do knock people over, or walk all over them, in our drive to finish first, win the promotion, etc. Clearly that is a good strategy for some in the short term, but in the long term — Mishu’s right — people do not like that. This is NOT what Mishu means by Now is Now!
There might be short term gain to be had from finishing first while ignoring human decency, kindness, and basic manners, but eventually people will figure out that this is your M.O. and they will not want to work with you anymore. Call it Karma, call it fate, call it getting your due:  treating people like they’re expendable just because you are focused on yourself and your goals is never going to be a good strategy! read more

Juan asks about Freedom; Mishu answers

Dear Juan,
I wish I could run as fast as I can for as long as I want, but I wouldn’t want to give up treats, a comfy place to sleep, and my humans….  Did you know that some humans they aren’t free – and they also don’t get good food, a comfy place to sleep or to be with the people they love?  Human trafficking is a terrible problem. You can help by visiting my friends @FreedomUnitedHQ

The Inside Story

As many of you know, Dear Mishu had a tough puppyhood in a place where animals are often neglected. There are so many animals in this situation in the world, that it can be easy to overlook the horrible crimes we humans enact on our own species. read more

What’s your favorite food? Aimee asks, Mishu answers.

Dear Aimee,
I’ll eat anything.  It must be my proud street-dog heritage –  I’ve got some scavenger in me! …  A lot of us with difficult pasts focus on the negatives, but we should remember that it gave us many things: resilience, flexibility, an appreciation for life and a willingness to eat anything!

The Inside Story

Yes, Mishu really will eat anything, including things she’s not supposed to eat.

She’s not like some dogs who you have to measure their food or they’ll eat everything in the bowl.  Even if it’s her favorite food, Mishu will generally stop when she’s no longer hungry and leave some food in the bowl. read more
