The Inside Story
As many of you know, Dear Mishu had a tough puppyhood in a place where animals are often neglected. There are so many animals in this situation in the world, that it can be easy to overlook the horrible crimes we humans enact on our own species.
Last week Dear Mishu’s human daddy (or one of them — she has three) met Joe Schmidt, the CEO of Freedom United, a non-profit that is dedicated to ending modern slavery through advocacy, philanthropy, and lobbying governments. Joe and his organization made a big impression, and we decided that Dear Mishu would help publicize the incredible work that they do.
There are 48.5 million people in the world today who are in modern slavery. That can include bonded labor, forced labor, child slavery, live-in domestic slavery, and child marriage, as well as human trafficking. This article on modern slavery is a powerful example of the way slavery can hide in plain site. Freedom United works with anti-slavery groups, individuals, and governments to end modern slavery.
