Dear Alison: I’m so proud of you — that you were accepted to college and are choosing to invest in yourself. Start there, and take a moment to be proud of your achievements. After you’ve done that for a while, then you can think about money. If you think you’ll want to work in a lucrative profession, loans might be fine. If you think you might choose to work for a non-profit or as a teacher, loans might be a burden. In the end, getting a good education is what you put into it, and I can see that you are the kind of person who will focus on what’s important.

  1. Dear Alison,

Have you applied to scholarships? Have you completed your FAFSA yet? Look at in-state vs out of state. Look at the program you want to go into and evaluate your choices based on that.
